“How soon will I start making money online?” This is a question I hear a lot, so I thought I’d write a bit about what I usually say to this, and also invite you to download a video that I made not too long ago telling about my own start up experience and how long it took me to start making money online.

So I’ve got to be honest and tell you right off the bat that I can’t answer that question for you. Since I don’t know you, I don’t have any idea how you approach life; how you handle working at things; or what you think it takes to succeed. It is the answers to those kinds of questions that will make the single biggest difference in when, or whether, you start making money in an online business.

In my video, I tell you my own story about getting started–part-time and with NO INTERNET MARKETING experience–and how long it took me to start making an income that I could live on. More importantly, I share a few of the things about how I approached my new online venture that made it all worthwhile for me.

Here are those things:

I was highly motivated! You see, I was still working full-time in a traditional job, but that was coming to an end. I only had about two months to make a successful transition from a steady paycheck to a self-supporting business income. Scary? You bet. But exciting too. I was fully charged and ready to do whatever it took!

I didn’t waste any time treating my business like a hobby. With a short transition period, no nest egg, no second income to lean on, and almost no reserves to cover the gaps, I HAD to hit the ground running.

I started part-time–while I was still working the other job–so that I could learn as much as possible before my other income ran out.

I followed the plan! “When in doubt…read the directions!”–remember joking about things like this? If ever there was a time for this to be the absolute right thing to do, this was it! I know about a lot of things, but Internet marketing was NOT one of them. I was fortunate to have joined a company (for this very reason!) that provides a step-by-step blueprint to its new members and marketers. The only way to “fail” was to simply not do what it said. Duh.

I kept doing what worked. And if something didn’t work, I either stopped doing it, or found out how to fix it so it would work. “Duh” again. I mean, this was really going so much more easily than I had even dared to hope.

That was really all that it took.

Trust the leaders and the tools

Put what the leaders teach into action

Take MASSIVE action–every day!

Commit to doing the work

And…NEVER GIVE UP!

Once others begin doing business with you, watch the momentum build!. You begin morphing from student to leader, sharing what you know. Their success–as they follow your leadership–starts multiplying your own. Before you know it, you will not only have changed your own life, but you will find that you have begun making a difference in the lives of other people who shared your desire and determination to make an honest living online.
