Okay. Plan A-what you have worked at for years-just went down the tubes. What now? You could look for another version of the same thing you have been doing-just like the several thousand other people that have been laid off in your industry this year-or you could take a deep breath, step away from the crowd, and begin imagining your very own Plan B career.
How do you know if you have what it takes to succeed with something entirely different? That would take an entrepreneurial mindset. If you have that, your chances of success are well above average, but it is still up to you to make it work.
Here are eight sets of traits that have been identified as present in people that have successfully launched entrepreneurial careers at mid-life or later. Most of them found the greatest reward and satisfaction in starting their own businesses, rather than stepping back onto the treadmill.
So…how many of these do you possess?
-
1) Integrity
2) Responsibility and hard work
3) Independence and self-reliance
4) Drive to achieve
5) Contagious and indomitable energy that attracts others
6) Health and wellness in body, mind, and spirit
7) Imagination and trust in one’s own decisions
You don’t even need to possess all of them to the max; if you can say “Yes! That describes me!” to at least 5 and the other 3 are things you aspire to, then you most likely have what it takes to succeed with a Plan B Career.
I have a developed a six-part exercise that you can complete offline–in the privacy of your own space–to help you gain clarity about where you are and where you want your life to go from here. To get your FREE copy, just fill in the box below and I’ll rush it straight to your email/inbox.
