It is not even quite noon and I am once again marveling at the power of leverage! You see, I made a choice earlier today to leverage something MUCH more powerful than me, in order to put both time and money back in my pocket. It took zero effort (except for the decision) on my part. And it worked–I just looked out over the results with my own eyes and then scurried over to my computer to dash off this post. This is just too good not to share!

You see, I live in Washington, DC–the nouveau snowbelt–and we have just gone through our second blizzard in 5 days. (I’m doing well, thanks!) When I walked first to my front door to look out, and then to my back door early this morning, I saw pretty much the same thing: lots and lots of drifted white covering everything I had shoveled bare again just 15 hours earlier. Sigh. But I also saw something else that helped me make up my mind about what to do next; I saw that it was going to be a bright sunny day. How inspiring!

So I poured another cup of coffee, turned on some great jazz, sat down at my computer and did a little income-generating work, participated in a high-energy Wake Up Call with my business community, and finally picked up my shovel and headed out my BACK door. That was a little after 11:00.

Even on the shady side of the house, the areas that I had previously shoveled out were a snap to shovel again. You see,because I worked a little bit each of the last days, it cut my work (not to mention the strain on my back) down to a minimum today. And that was on the worse of the two sides. I knew that I had worked “smarter than harder.”

But here is the really good part. When I came back inside 20 minutes later, I looked out the front, and–VOILA–my powerful friend the sun had removed ALL of the snow on my front porch, on my steps, and down along my sidewalk. Just as I had predicted. I didn’t need to lift a finger out there. THAT, my friends, is what leverage is about.
