Just the other morning, on the daily Wake-Up call that gathers members of our worldwide entrepreneurial community together for a 15-minute “cup of leadership”, John Jackson, VP for Leadership Development, shared this interesting take on “four kinds of people–four kinds of ‘out’.” I invite you to listen to the call .
First, there are the COPOUTS–these are the people with no goals, no commitment. They make excuses and assign blame, rather than taking steps and living life fully.
Second, there are the HOLDOUTS–these people are afraid. They don’t know if they can reach goals, so they never even try. Fear is a non-starter and the holdouts can’t seem to get past it.
Next, there are the DROPOUTS–these people start moving toward their goals, but when the going gets tough, they drop out. They have goals–dreams–but they never finish what they start, once the heavy lifting begins. Dropouts drop commitments and drop relationships. There is all the potential in the world, for dropouts, but they believe their own excuses (see copouts), stop moving forward, and so get none of the results and rewards.
Finally, there are the ALLOUTS! These are the winners; the leaders; the one who get results. Allouts set goals, commit to them, and then go through the process to reach them–whatever it takes. Those are the allouts–allout action and life leadership. These people show others how it is done and then keep doing it. They show up in life, and they show up on the leaderboards; they make it LOOK easy, even when it is not. But they are real, so the real allouts share the pitfalls and hard-learned-lessons as well as the mountaintop experiences. They don’t make excuses or blame others for their own missteps or missed opportunities–they keep it real and they keep it going.
So, I invite you to get your own little “cup of leadership” by tuning into the call on the link above. Catch an earful of what community members have available every day, and let me know if you’d like more information about how to be a part of it all.
